BAND BIO -
Alterna-Punk? PsychoBilly? Cross-Over Country? Alt-Pop rock? Singer-Songwriter, Joseph D'Angora serves up a broad range of extremely contageous musical flavors with MUMPO. Refusing to be hampered by any one genre, the band blends influences such as White Stripes, Iggy Pop, Hank Williams, Tom Waits, Louis Armstrong and Elvis Costello...sometimes even within the same song! Lead Guitarist, Rich Vacarro, provides irresistible hooks, while Graham Taylor on Bass, and Todd Nosek on Drums drop a beat that will make you move. Additional spice is added by Toby Ricci on violin and other guest musicians. MUMPO has been rocking L.A. clubs like The Whiskey, The Viper Room, The Troubadour, B.B. Kings and Dragonfly since 2004. D'Angora and Taylor provide a Boston-Punk influence while the rest of the band adds the L.A. edge. Booking info: mumpotheband@gmail.com or call 310-625-6807.

PRESS & REVIEWS -
OX Fanzine-Germany-
... MUMPO hails from LA and with one look at their website it is obvious that these people at work here do not have a very high opinion of George W. Bush. This you can not only read but also hear if you listen to their opener "Fanatic" which is also on the current OX cd, its an ode to "Dubja" with mixed in quotations of the" President" who is mentioned only in Quotationmarks.
But the other tracks are also pretty pissy and openly political and worship druguse– see the titletrack- but naturally in an ironic manner.
Musically MUMPO which I think is by the way a grandiose name has a pretty unique thing going on, somewhere between Punk,Pop, Garage and Zapppa or something like that. And if Alternative Tentacles publishes the EVAPORATORS then I think there should be room for MUMPO in the "Incredibly Strange Music" section. The songs are accessible on the very entertaining website so check it out

I would just like to throw in my two cents; I hope that no one notices that they are Canadian, tough times and can't afford to give away 2 cents (US) not even to such a worthy cause unless there is beer involved. This was my first time at the World Famous Viper Room Sunset Strip. I don't frequent these types of establishments (I get shunned on for being from the Valley, and I won't be caught posing on front street saying that I live south of the Santa Monica Mountains). It's a fact you can purchase a bottle of Jack Daniels for only $250 dollars. I prefer a nice dirty dive somewhere in the central or north valley (San Fer). This event however I could not miss. I hauled ass from Bakersfield (don't ask) to try and get there in time and not miss a beat. As my first Mumpo experience all I can say is ROCK!!! My first Mumpo experience surpassed my wildest dreams (I don't generally remember them). It was a ROCK event to remember, I caught a T shirt and had beers in my pocket babes all around me. I felt like the ROCK STAR, and that's why this event meant so much to me. As stated in the 1991 movie directed by Oliver Stone,The Doors, when doing the Ed Sullivan Show "We can't say the word higher instead of saying Girl We Couldn't Get Much Higher could you say Girl It Just Can't Get Any Better". Well this is my Girl It Just Can't Get Any Better. Can you dig?
-- Joel Luna, Sun Valley.

MUSIC BY MUMPO--You may question the band’s name (unless you’ve read “Geek Love“ by Katherine Dunn), but you won’t question the catchiness of the tunes. Singer/songwriter Joe D’Angora is the charasmatic frontman bringing a sensibility to the music that is sometimes quirky, other times campy but always powerfully edgy, bringing a clever mix of post-punk, post-grunge, alternative fanfare. Lyrics like “Pregnant widow dreams”, and “God, don’t let me die in heat” with the addition of incredibly inventive lead guitar by Rich Vaccarro draw the LA bar crowds in. Their new CD, "MY NEW ADDICTION" gets two thumbs up. -- Marie Bancroft, USPE Times

MUMPO embodies the anxieties of the superficial modern world - the paradox of "healthy" relationships coexisting with primordial instincts. This wellspring of denial is evidenced by MUMPO's primitive pansexuality despite an absence of manliness or martial valor. This mockery of libidinal instincts is a grotesque travesty and ultimately results in a gender confusion that culminates in a orgiastic free-for-all that, ironically, leaves any hormonally seething woman wanting for corporeal satisfaction and vaginal fulfillment. LEARN TO SING AND FUCK LIKE REAL MEN YOU FAGS!!!
---Bob Bueller, President Bush's Council for Psychological Health

MUMPO: Oddly compiled group sets up in small, dark garage type concert hall with lively, quirky lyrics and nonstop head bouncing tunes! Combining punk rock, alternative tunes, funky instrumentals and character like lyrics --- M U M P O is a must see!
FYI: "Who Cares" Rawks!!! ---Amy Schoaff, Stanford International

Where'd you get the name "Mumpo"? Sounds like one of the lost Marxbrothers...Anyway, I listened to the songs. Pretty cool! The art critic in me heardflavors of the Cars (like on "Lost Weekend"), Weezer and the B-52's. Andsort of like some of the old stuff on the Spinal Tap soundtrack. (Gimmesome money, Flower People). Or maybe it was something bad in the cookie Ijust ate. Cheers,
John St. Germaine, MA

The banality of its pseudo-self-awareness and socio-disant political sagacity infuse the music of MUMPO with a brain-numbing groove that leaves us with a delicious hebetude and a pulsating erection... more!!!... --S. Mudra, Canton Ink Spots
